Oroville Student Reports
You might have seen the building pictured above, but have you ever been inside?
That building is The Depot Museum, a product of the Oroville Historical Society’s hardwork and dedication, that displays the important history of the town and all of the people and factors that established Oroville as the town it is today.
Once you enter the museum you are greeted by one of the many knowledgeable and friendly volunteers that are happy to show you around and go in-depth into the many pieces that the museum has on display.
There are a variety of different exhibits including Railroad Equipment, Native American history, Enloe Dam History, Mining History, and the most critically acclaimed; the model train that you can follow all the way around the exhibit. Although the model train may be “miniature” the exhibit is larger than life and contains insanely realistic and minute details that are sure to wow any member of your party.

Back behind the museum building there is another multitude of things to see such as the incredibly built Pit House, a traditional dwelling that Native Americans lived in. Peering inside you can see the infrastructure of the house and listen to one of the lovely volunteers explain the fascinating building process.
Farming equipment also fills the outdoor space, such as this machine that originally did not have a roof; a person decided that they were tired of being rained on so they outfitted a car top onto the original machine (talk about a DIY project).

Items like this are just a taste of what you can see at the Oroville Depot Museum. Even just 15 minutes will open your eyes to the history of our town and make you appreciate the past and present a little bit more. So stop in and learn about the place you live, or the place you are just visiting, and appreciate all of the rich history that the museum has to offer.
