A Sense Of Community: Okanogan Valley Orchestra

Did you know that the Okanogan Valley has a community orchestra and chorus? Well it's true! They have three concerts every year, right in Omak. Community music groups like this one are a wonderful thing to become a part of.
I’ve had the fortunate experience of becoming a member of this community orchestra. Being in a band or some type of music group is not all about sounding good and having a good performance, don't get me wrong that is a big part of it, but there is more to it. There is just something magical about a group of people that come from all these different walks of life that come together to create music because of our shared love for it.
Every week I have the opportunity to go and rehearse with a great group of people who all want to be there and be a part of something special. I don't even know everyone there, yet we still can communicate and be a part of a family through music.
One of the more influential members of the group I would like to make a shout out to is our wonderful director Matt Brown. He is such an amazing conductor and is overall a very loving and caring guy. I enjoy all the bits of wisdom he squeezes into each rehearsal and I have grown fond of his birding stories that he tells from time to time.
Since this is a community orchestra and chorus, anyone is welcome to join. There is no need to audition, just show up to a rehearsal and start making music. All ages and skill levels are welcome, it is a big family that just loves music.
